Elections Faculty Council 2026
Candidate 1 - Marije Stoltenborgh
Let me briefly introduce myself: my name is Marije Stoltenborgh and I work as a lecturer in the Educational Sciences programme. This suits me well, as I have a great passion for education and for our students! Within our programme, I mainly focus on developing and teaching skills-based education at both subject-specific and interdisciplinary levels. In addition, I have for several years enjoyed being a member of the Programme Committee for Educational Sciences and the Institute Council, which has given me extensive experience with participation and advisory bodies.
Within the Programme Committee, we focus on maintaining and improving the quality of education within our programme; within the Institute Council, we contribute constructively to institute-wide policy discussions on areas such as research, education, workload, and student and staff wellbeing. During meetings, I am also willing to ask difficult questions such as: “Why are we doing this in this way? Could it be done better, more effectively, or in a more pleasant way?” I would like to extend the work I do within the Institute Council to the Faculty Council so that I can also contribute to policy discussions at faculty level on a wide range of topics.
If elected, I will commit myself within the Faculty Council to supporting all staff and students of our faculty. In doing so, I will pay particular attention to the position of lecturers, as I have consistently done within the Institute Council. Traditionally, the position of lecturers within academia has been subordinate to that of assistant professors, something that has always surprised me given that universities regard both research and education as core responsibilities. Over the years, positive progress has been made in strengthening the position of lecturers, while at the same time there are still important steps to be taken in continuing this development. I would very much like to contribute to that further progress.
So: are you looking for someone who will work constructively with the faculty board on policy matters, keeping the wellbeing of all staff and students in mind while giving specific attention to the position of lecturers? Then vote for me!
