Faculty thesis prize for master's students
The faculty thesis prize was established in 1994 and is awarded to the three best master's theses from the past academic year. Theses with a grade of 9 or higher may be submitted by the supervisors.
There are three prizes: €1000, €800 and €600. The prizes are funded by the Stichting Oukha. The award ceremony takes place during the faculty’s New Year Reception. The winner of the faculty thesis prize then has a chance to win the Leiden University thesis prize.
Procedure
In September, supervisors of students with a thesis grade of 9 or higher will be notified if they wish to nominate the student. The jury, composed of a member of staff from each of the faculty’s institutes, assesses the submissions. Barend Barentsen has been the chair of the jury since 2025. Bart Krans chaired the jury from 2016 to 2024.
