Leiden Archaeology PhD Committee

The PhD Committee is a bottom-up initiative that aims to create an open, active, and fun environment for all PhD candidates working at Leiden University’s Faculty of Archaeology.

The PhD community at the Faculty of Archaeology is diverse, international, and interdisciplinary. The committee is run by a rotating group of PhDs dedicated to providing a dynamic and friendly environment for the PhD community. It organises monthly events to promote community-building and interdisciplinary dialogue. Examples of such events are the PhDrinks – an informal community-building event – and the PhDebates – a discussion platform for topics ranging from cutting-edge research to life as a PhD.

The PhD committee also acts as a connection between the PhD community and policy makers at Faculty of Archaeology. It is actively involved in all developments concerning PhD candidates within the Faculty of Archaeology or Leiden University as a whole. The committee aims to keep in touch with the members of the PhD community and regularly meets with the Graduate School and the PhD representation in the Faculty Board to share concerns or suggestions from the PhD community.
