Responsibility of the Boards

The Boards of Examiners are responsible for the effective organisation of all examinations and assessments and ensure their quality.

The Faculty of Law has three examination boards:
• the faculty Board of Examiners
• the Board of Examiners Honours College Law
• the
Board of Examiners Advanced Masters

What do the Boards of Examiners do?

Important tasks and responsibilities of the Boards arising from the Dutch Higher Eduction and Research Act (WHW) are: 

  • Monitoring the quality of examinations and assessments
  • Issuing rules and guidelines on examinations and assessments
  • The appointment of examiners
  • Granting exemptions
  • Taking measures related to fraud (plagiarism etc.)
  • Granting individual resits
  • Issuing certificates/diplomas

In addition, the Board of Examiners has been mandated by the Faculty Board to issue decisions regarding the (BSA); The BSA recommendations are therefore issued by the Board of Examiners on behalf of the Faculty Board (in accordance with the 'Regulations on Binding Study Advice at Leiden University ').

Position within the Faculty

The chair and secretary of the Faculty Board of Examiners and the Board of Examiners of Honours College Law are part of the Department of Education.
