Frequently Asked Questions
Researchers working in the Institutes of Cultural Anthropology and Development Sociology, Political Science and the Centre for Science and Technology Studies (i.e., project managers, PhD candidates, assistant professors, associate professors, visiting researchers, professors by special appointment) are invited to apply for ethical approval at the Ethics Review Committee Social Sciences.
The Ethics Review Committee Social Sciences reviews research proposals. Researcher can submit a review because third-party funders require an ethics assessment but they can also do so when researchers themselves wish to consult the committee on research ethics.
This might depend on the requirements set forth by third-party funder. Some funders require an ethical approval before honoring the research application. Others, require such an assessment afterwards.
The Ethics Review Committee tries to respond within 15 working days. The Ethics Review Committee might ask you to address additional issues before approval can be given, in which case more time may be needed.
Before submitting a research proposal for review:
After completing the request form, you can submit the ethics review request to the Ethics Review Committee via e-mail.
In case you are involved in an interdisciplinary research project within our faculty, you only need to submit your ethics review request to one review committee – please choose the committee that is most appropriate.
If you collaborate with external partners, you may still submit your research project for ethical approval to the Ethics Review Committee. If your research project has already been reviewed by another review committee somewhere else, you might still want to send it for approval to the Ethics Review Committee.
- In case you have questions about the procedure, please e-mail to the committee's secretary.
- Specific questions regarding the request form can be asked to the representatives of the different departments and institutes.
