Executive Board
The Executive Board is responsible for the efficient and effective management of the whole University.
Composition of the Executive Board

1st term: 1 November 2025 - 31 October 2029
Luc Sels is responsible for the university’s general policy and coordination, strategy and positioning, international policy, knowledge transfer, fundraising, marketing and communication, alliances and external relations of the university.

1st term: 15 January 2026 - 14 January 2030
Sarah de Rijcke is responsible for the teaching and research at the university. Student affairs, academic HR policy, open science, academic integrity and international academic networks are also part of her portfolio.

1st term: 1 March 2025 - 28 February 2029
Timo Kos is responsible for financial policy, general HR policy, organisational development, ICT, real estate, sustainable campus development, university services and integrated security policy.
What does the Executive Board do?
- Draws up the Administration and Management Regulations.
- Bears responsibility for the entire administration of the University.
- Issues guidelines to the Faculty Boards on the organisation and coordination of the exercise of their powers.
- Mandates administrative powers to the Faculty Boards, directors of the units that do not belong to faculties, the central units and the University service centres.
- If necessary, issues instructions to mandate holders.
Position at the University
The Executive Board is the highest administrative body of Leiden University. The Board of Governors appoints, suspends and dismisses the members of the Executive Board.
