Expertise Centre for Academic Skills
The Expertise Centre for Academic Skills provides training in academic skills within various BA programmes, and organises a Thesis seminar for BA students of the Faculty. The Centre also has a Writing Centre, which offers free advice to students who are working on their academic writing assignments.
Writing centre
You can contact the Writing Centre for advice on your academic writing assignment. During an individual meeting with a specially trained fellow student (writing tutor) you can discuss your subject, structure, writing style and other matters relating to your assignment or thesis. In addition, the Writing Centre has drawn up a number of useful writing tips.
Thesis seminar
The Thesis Seminar offers workgroup guidance in writing the third-year BA thesis.
Instruction in Academic Skills
The Writing Centre offers special lectures on Academic skills in various BA programmes: general study skills, fast and critical reading, assessing sources, writing a paper and giving oral presentations.
Academic skills are covered in ten fortnightly meetings during the first and/or second semester of the propaedeutic year. Most programmes have chosen to include all or part of this in their programme. Some programmes themselves provide a similar offer (see the study guide for your programme). The Writing Centre also offers an academic skills course to premaster students of Humanities.
