What is the Faculty Council?

After the University Council, the Faculty Council is the second highest staff and student body at the University. It acts as an intermediary between the various departments of a faculty. The Faculty Council has the right to approve and advise on various matters concerning the faculty. It also represents students and staff and is a sounding board for the Faculty Board. Faculty councils are composed of student and staff members. Staff members are elected for a term of two years, and students for one year.

How do you vote online?

Voting is possible from Monday 9 May 7:00 hours to Friday 13 May 16:00 hours. Students and staff members will receive an email for this, but they can also vote directly via the election app.

Who can I vote for? (Students)

Dear students,

My name is Wilmer Verbree, a Public Administration (Bestuurskunde) student and CSL-candidate for the faculty council elections. I am applying because I’m passionate about representing the student perspective in the faculty. In the faculty council, I will try to improve the quality of education for all students. The most important points to me are making lectures available online, trying to make the University buildings less crowded, and contributing to increasing access to small-scale education. In this way, I want to contribute to a better quality of education and a more pleasant learning environment for all students!

Dear fellow students,

I am Yasmijn Jagtenberg, a second year Public Administration student at FGGA and honours student at FSW.  I am a candidate for the faculty board for Lijst Vooruitstrevende Studenten (LSV). As a wheelchair user, with an amazing assistance dog and a member of the LBGTOA+ community, inclusion and diversity are very important to me. If I am elected I will also work to improve:

  • Communication to all students
  • Accessibility in general
  • Visibility of participation councils throughout the year
  • Autonomy of students, including online options
  • Lowering thresholds for participation
  • Sustainability

I'm Benjamin!!! I am 20 years old and am a second year Security Studies student and a first year Philosophy student. I love to listen to and play music and love all that Leiden and The Hague student life has to offer. In the Faculty Council, I want to fight for a realistic form of hybrid education. Being in the lecture hall yourself is of course super cosy, but in our busy and chaotic lives, being able to look back on a lecture is the ultimate outcome. Because let's face it... you can't relive a sunny day, but you can relive a lecture!
